Summer 2016 TV AWARDS

Everything is better is summer, even TV. Well to jump right in to it, not everything, and even the surplus in sunshine serotonine can't change that:

THE 'THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD SHOW, DONT HAVE TIME FOR THIS' SHOWS

1. Dead of summer. Campy in a bad way, nothing new to see. What is Elisabeth Mitchell doing here?! Watched the Pilot. Done.
2. Wayward pines. As I said before, the premise for season 2 sounded as The 100.  The execution was clunky and when a certain character (SPOILER) took a knife to her own throat, for no good reason at all, I was done. Watched two episodes.
3. Queen of the south. I hoped for no voiceover, and there it was. Again, no new angle, this is being made only in the hope to catch a certain target group. Saw the pilot. Done.

Now for the rest...

MOST BINGEABLE SHOWS OF SUMMER 2016:

I will come back on OITNB later, these are the others:
1. Marcella. This is a strangely addictive show, perfect summer fare. All that glorious London fog is ideal during a heatwave, and Anna Friel as an detective investigating several murders, one that she may have committed herself, is an intriguing train wreck.
2. Stranger Things. Show of the summer? Maybe. It is widely entertaining in that reassuring Spielbergian way. Chockfull of movie and Steven King references, heartfelt, suspenseful but never upsetting, emotional without being corny and really funny. It has been made with such ease.  The attention to detail reminded me of It Follows. Casting, acting, decors, music, all spot on.  I would recommend this to everyone.
3. Bloodline. Oh Coach you should have stayed in Texas. As any good noir, the mess only got worse for the Rayburns. John is trying so hard to rise up from the quicksand that is his family.   Maybe it's my love for Kyle Chandler but I was surprised to read this review in the A.V. CLUB where SPOILER ALERT they painted John as the villain and his sibling as the ones confronting him with this truth. Come on, John really has no luck with his sibling. Kevin is the worst. Anyhow...

BEST WRITING:

The writers of Orange is the new black deserve so much admiration. This was the ombre season, it went from light and funny to the deepest darkness. With so many characters in play, you have to get them be at the wrong place at the right time, for the right reasons at the end of the season. They played a perfect chess game. They maneuvered every last one of the Litchfield inmates  to one of the most devastating deaths on this show and any show. Kudos for not doing it for shock value, or ratings, but for absolutely the best reason. To make a point, and create empathy. The cliffhanger in the finale was build up from the same meticulous execution. I am sure, that you, as I was, were screaming at the screen.
Get off her! and Shoot! Bring out all the Emmys. For everyone. Incredible work.
